I called him out on his proposal…

How he proposed. Some girls grow up fantasizing about an extravagant proposal involving a flash mob, jumping out of a plane or a movie trailerwhile others hope for a private engagement enjoyed only with your future partner. As much as I love watching extravagant proposals that go viral on social media, I fit more with the latter category. What matters is that the proposal fits who the two of you are together, and that it is from the right person. The way Will proposed may not be in this list by Jackie Zimmermannbut it was everything I could have wanted and it made me all the more sure we were soulmates.

We started talking about marriage early on in our relationship; where we’d live, if we wanted kids, and the lifestyle we hoped to achieve. We celebrated our first anniversary at a wedding, which only amplified our desire to reach this chapter in our lives. A few weeks later, Will drove me home and tucked me into bed before leaving. I remember hearing him talking to my parents a few hours later, and I just knew he was asking for their blessings! I was on cloud nine, and had the best sleep ever that night.

Two dthe keg manor signays later, William asked me if I wanted to go to our favorite restaurant. Of course, I said yes! We were sitting on the couch, and he was running his fingers around my ring finger. I couldn’t help but ask him if he was going to propose at the dinner.

Baaabe, you know I can’t propose until I talk to your parents!

The candlelit dinner a historic mansion was very romantic, but I could see that Will was nervous. He kept putting his hand in his pocket (making sure the ring was still there), and ate much more slowly than usual. When the check came, we quickly paid and walked out of the beautiful manor. I remember feeling a little disappointed, and thought that maybe he wasn’t going to propose that night after all. As soon as we walked out of the front door, he softly called out my name. I turned around, and there he was; down on one knee! He shared with me the most beautiful sentiment of how he felt about me, and why hoped to spend the rest of our lives together. I was beyond thrilled, and said yes before he could even finish.

Nearly four years later, I still remember the overwhelming joy I felt when I saw him on bended knee professing, his love for me. That moment will forever be one of my favorites, especially because it led to the life we have today. Our story may not be movie-material, but the emotions it brought out of us both is what made it so incredibly special and unique. It matches perfectly with the quiet, and humble lives we hope to lead in the near future.

  1. Awww this is so sweet and brought tears to my eyes! I agree that it’s not about how the proposal is done, it’s about who you are with and the emotions you feel. It’s different for everyone.

  2. Love your story! This is so sweet and inspiring! For me it doesn’t matter how my partner’s gonna propose as long as he truly loves me, it’s more than enough. Great post! 🙂

  3. Awww, That was the sweetest thing I’ve heard. What a great proposal. The restaurants look really great. I want to go there.

  4. Awww, so nice to reminisce about moments like this. My proposal happened on my 25th birthday, sans the fanfare, which was quite understandable since my husband just isn’t that kind of guy, lol. He didn’t even ask me if I wanted to marry him. He simply said, “Marry me” (with a ring, of course) and the rest is history. 😀

  5. I just love hearing proposal stories. They are all so sweet and unique. Looks like you guys are off to a wonderful start! My husband woke me up at 4:00 a.m. to watch a sunrise (unfortunately it was foggy). He kept waiting for the sun to come out and when it didn’t he popped the question anyway.

  6. What a beautiful and sweet engagement story, thank you for sharing. The manor house looks great for special occasions.

  7. What a lovely engagement story this is. It sounds like it was really perfect for you both. I wish you many happy years together.
