Online dating has taken the single life by storm, where more and more people take to the internet to meet their true love, a new friend, or someone in between. I too, did a short stint in online dating where I interacted with some pretty interesting characters. Today’s entry describes the 5 men I met during this experience.
PS I Love You and The Talk To do a great job describing the men most often found on websites like Tinder or Plenty of Fish. My experience mirrors theirs for the most part, with a happy twist at the end 🙂
1. The flake/workaholic
I found men who fit in this category one of the most frustrating. They’ll talk up a storm, take the time to get to know you, and make plans one day, and be completely MIA the next. What gives? Although some men from this group cancel plans often because they work incessantly in order to reach their plans for the future, not making the time to get to know you early on in a relationship is not a good sign. I remember taking their disappearance personally.
- Was I not pretty enough?
- Did he think I was weird?
- Was it something I said?
Thoughts like these can really take a toll on your self-esteem. That’s why it’s important to realize that you’re not the only one to have experienced this, and that it’s probably just the way that particular man is. Chin up, move on, and you will find someone who knows your worth.
2. The player
Unfortunately, it seems as though many women have had the experience of dating someone who either “doesn’t believe in monogamy” or who conveniently forgets to mention they were in a serious relationship. These guys tend to be quite the charmers, and keep you soon awe that you ignore the red flags. Unfortunately, it’s often not until something really obvious happens that you realize you need to run.
3. The cougar cub
Have you ever spent time messaging someone, feeling like the two of you could get along and then BAM, a bomb drops?
You’re HOW much younger than me?!
Because I have. The funniest thing is that when you immediately try to end the conversation (in shame), they try to defend their interest in you by telling you “how grown” they are. The key is to politely not even respond and once again, run.
4. The sugar daddy
These guys. Why do some men feel the need to immediately show off their fancy cars and designer watches? There’s nothing wrong with dating someone who is well off, as long as they have a personality to go along with it. It just wasn’t the quality I was hoping to find. I wanted a partner, not someone who wanted to take care of me while I stayed at home. The swanky dates would have looked nice for Instagram, but without the quality conversation that went beyond what he could buy, it just want worth taking the photos or sticking around.
5. The Soulmate
That’s right, I hit the jackpot and had my last first date all thanks to online dating! I guess the saying is true; sometimes, you need to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince.
